The Reid Gardner Station coal-fired power plant in Moapa is set to be closed by 2017.

A new poll finds 59 percent of Nevada voters support President Barack Obama’s recently released Clean Power Plan, while 37 percent oppose it — but that support varies strongly across party lines.

Of Nevada Democrats surveyed, 74 percent were in favor of the plan, while 61 percent of Republicans opposed it.

The survey, conducted by Public Policy Polling on behalf of national liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change, also found that 58 percent of Nevada voters consider climate change a serious problem. A total of 40 percent said it was not.

The survey was conducted from July 31 to Aug. 3 and included 529 respondents. The poll didn’t release its margin of error, but given the sample size, it would be expected to be about 5 percentage points.

Nevada is not among the 12 states that filed suit today to block implementation

of the EPA rule that calls for significant reductions in carbon emissions from power plants.
