Search on for missing Henderson man at Lake Mead

The National Park Service says rangers and helicopters are searching for a Henderson man who was reported missing after his boat was found unoccupied at Lake Mead.

The 67-year-old man set out to go fishing and is believed to have launched his boat about 4 a.m. Monday at Callville Bay, Lake Mead National Recreation Area spokeswoman Christie Vanover said Tuesday.

The 17-foot BassCat boat was found floating about 5 p.m. in the Virgin Basin and was recovered by rangers.

Vanover says helicopters from the U.S. Air Force 66th Rescue Squadron based at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas, the Nevada Army National Guard and Arizona Department of Public Safety were helping the search.

The park service says the search area covers more than 20 square miles.
