Cardiac patient to thank firefighters, highlight CPR

A thankful Las Vegas-area cardiac patient is marking the one-year anniversary of his resuscitation by visiting firefighter-paramedics who treated him and calling for people to learn CPR.

County spokeswoman Stacey Welling says 58-year-old Paul Davies arranged the Thursday visit to show his appreciation to firefighters at Clark County Fire Station 19 on Spencer Street.

Davies collapsed unconscious Aug. 14, 2014, near the Walmart store at Eastern Avenue and Oquendo Road.

Welling says an unidentified bystander called 911 and began CPR before paramedics arrived and took over Davies' care.

They reported Davies was unconscious and wasn't breathing before he was resuscitated.

Welling says Davies has agreed to tell his story to help educate the public about heart disease and the value of knowing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
