2 injured after entering burning Henderson home to save pets

Two people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation Thursday night after escaping a Henderson house fire but going back in to rescue the family pets, according to the city.

Fire crews were called about 10:15 p.m. to the single-family home in the 800 block of Sandsprings Street, near Lake Mead Parkway and Olsen Street, according to a Henderson press release.

Two adult occupants fled the blaze but were injured upon re-entering the smoke-filled home, officials said. They were taken to University Medical Center.

The accidental fire, which originated in the garage and spread to other parts of the two-story house, caused an estimated $250,000 damage, officials said.

Firefighters were able to get the heavy smoke and fire under control, and no injuries to pets or fire personnel were reported, the release said.
