Technology firm Switch opened a new data center — Supernap Las Vegas 9 — on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015.

Data company Switch is the first Nevada business to sign the the White House’s American Businesses Act on Climate Pledge, joining companies like Apple and Amazon in an effort to reduce emissions nationwide.

The pledge aims to rally support for President Barack Obama’s Climate Action Plan, which calls to eliminate 6 billion tons of carbon pollution through 2030. The companies that have signed on represent more than $140 billion of investment in renewable technology and generation.

Obama is expected to tout his plan in Paris this December at the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Switch, which stores data and provides other services for companies like eBay and Sony at its Supernap centers, made the announcement on the day of Sen. Harry Reid’s Clean Energy Summit, which featured Obama as the keynote speaker.

Switch recently made headlines for its commitment to renewables, negotiating a deal with NV Energy to pay a premium for consuming 100 percent renewable energy for its operations in Las Vegas. NV Energy’s parent company, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, also has signed the pledge.
