Updated Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015 | 4:44 p.m.

A Metro Police officer and a California woman suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheel truck this morning at a Spring Valley intersection, according to police.

The male officer, 23, was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer police vehicle south on Cimarron Road and entered the Spring Mountain Road intersection when he was struck by an eastbound 2011 Peterbilt 388 truck, police said.

The crash caused major damage, and the police vehicle rotated, hitting an eastbound 2008 Lexus ES 350, police said.

The second collision caused moderate damage, police said.

Both eastbound vehicles had a green light, and the officer wasn't responding to a service call when the accident occurred, police said.

The officer was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries and released, according to Metro Police.

The El Monte, Calif., woman, 57, driving the Lexus also suffered minor injuries and was transported to Southern Hills Hospital, police said. She was also later released.

The 46-year-old Las Vegas man driving the 18-wheel truck said he was not injured, police said.

The crash is under investigation, and the intersection of Cimarron and Spring Mountain roads was closed during the investigation, according to police.
