A 53-year-old man barricaded himself in a house Tuesday evening after he tried to assault a family member near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue, according to Metro Police.
Police were called about 4:50 p.m. to a report that the man tried to assault the relative with a knife, Lt. Bruce Miyama said.
No injuries were reported to the relative, but the suspect barricaded himself in a house on Adams Avenue, Miyama said.
The suspect was alone in the house and refused to exit, he said.
SWAT responded to the scene, and Adams Avenue was blocked from J Street to N Street, he said.
The suspect was taken into custody about 8 p.m., and he was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries that appear to be self-inflicted, according to Lt. David Gordon.
