North Las Vegas parents alerted after child was nearly abducted

Officials are investigating a report that an elementary school student was nearly kidnapped Monday at a North Las Vegas park, according to the Clark County School District and North Las Vegas Police.

A letter sent to parents of students at Jesse D. Scott Elementary School stated an adult male approached the boy, a student at the school, at Tropical Breeze Park, while he was on his way home.

The man at the park, which is less than a quarter-mile from the school, then pulled the boy into his car, according to the report.

The boy was not abducted, according to a CCSD spokesperson.

A similar letter was sent to parents of students at the nearby Carroll M. Johnston Middle School as a precaution.

North Las Vegas Police received word Monday afternoon of the reported attempted abduction and are investigating the report, Officer Steven Wiese said.

No suspect description was immediately available.

The letters sent to the parents offered student safety tips, reminding parents it's best for students to walk in groups on the way to and from school, keep distance from strangers, and run to a safe place like a school or store in case of an emergency.

Anyone with additional information on the incident can call North Las Vegas Police at 702-633-9111, CCSD Police at 702-799-5411, or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
