Woman killed during robbery attempt at Las Vegas doctor’s office

Updated Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015 | 11:56 p.m.

Metro Police say a woman attempting to rob a doctor's office was fatally shot by a worker there.

Police say a man and woman with their faces covered walked into the medical office in the 2800 block of West Charleston Boulevard, near Rancho Drive, during an appointment Wednesday evening and began ransacking the business.

Lt. Dan McGrath says the man was armed with a handgun and demanded money and possibly drugs. Police say the man pistol-whipped the doctor.

McGrath says a clinic employee retrieved his own gun from his vehicle, confronted the suspects in the parking lot and fired multiple shots at the woman.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died. The doctor was also taken to the University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening facial injuries.

The man, described as a thin black male standing 5-feet-8-inches tall, fled. He was last seen wearing dark clothes and a ski mask on his face, police said in a news release.

This is the 126th homicide this year investigated by Metro Police.

The name and official cause of death of the woman will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
