A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly hitting and killing a moped rider in North Las Vegas on Saturday night, according to North Las Vegas Police.

Also according to police:

David Coleman was taken into custody after he allegedly hit a 24-year-old man on a moped at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard North and Hamilton Street around 9 p.m.

Witnesses say Coleman was speeding as he traveled south on Las Vegas Boulevard near Hamilton Street when he struck the victim, who was traveling in the same direction.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity and cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's office.

Coleman fled the scene in his Toyota Camry, but he was located by a neighboring police agency at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonneville Avenue, where he was taken into custody without incident.

He is being charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death, felony duty to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and felony reckless driving resulting in death.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the case.
