Fire forces two adults and a child from apartment

Two adults and a child were displaced following an apartment fire in the central valley Monday night.

The Clark County Fire Department responded to the fire about 10 p.m. at the Hesperian Falls Apartments on Algonquin Drive, near Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway.

Fire crews reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-story building and requested an additional fire truck, officials said.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside and worked their way into the building, focusing on the attic to prevent the fire from spreading, officials said.

Two people were treated for minor injuries and possible smoke inhalation; one of them was taken to University Medical Center for further evaluation, officials said.

The fire affected two apartments, but no damage estimate was available, officials said.

The Red Cross was assisting the displaced residents.
