You spend weeks — or days, if you're a procrastinator — preparing for the holiday season, but what is there to do once the presents are opened? In Las Vegas, the special day doesn't have to end after the gift exchange. The city offers several activities for the entire family to enjoy on Christmas Day, from bowling to shopping to thrill rides and more. Here’s a look of some of the places that are open on the holiday:

Bowling centers

• Suncoast Bowling Center opens at 8 a.m. and will remain open for 24 hours. Holiday rates are $3.50 per game or $12 for all you can bowl from 8 a.m. to 1p.m. There is also a $3.50 shoe rental fee. Address: 9090 Alta Drive. Phone: 702-636-7400

• Orleans Bowling Center is a 24-hour facility. Rates start at $3.75 per game, plus $3.50 for shoe rental. Address: 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. Phone: 702-365-7400

• Silver Nugget Casino lanes are open from 9 a.m. to midnight. At the cheapest rate in town for the holiday, bowling is $1.00 per game between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $2.50 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., $3.00 for cosmic bowling, which features dance music (probably Christmas music as well) and colored flashing lights to create a party-like atmosphere. • Sam’s Town Bowling Center will also be open for 24 hours. Holiday rates are $3 per game, plus a $3.50 shoe rental fee. Cosmic bowling begins at 9 p.m. for $3.50. Address: 5111 Boulder Highway. Phone: 702-454-8022

• Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas offers bowling for all ages from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Linq Promenade. Up to eight people in a group can bowl for 30 minutes for $25 per lane. There is also a $4.95 shoe rental fee. Address: 3545 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Phone: 702-862-2695

Movie theaters

With the recent opening of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and new films featuring such stars as Will Smith ("Concussion"), Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg ("Daddy's Home") and Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro ("Joy"), this weekend promises to be a busy one at the movies. Hours of operation vary as they are based on film showings at each theater. Full can be found at Fandango.com or theater websites. Prices are subject to change due to the holiday as well. The following theaters are open on Christmas Day:

Snow activities

What better way to enjoy the winter holiday than a day in the snow? Families can go sledding at Mount Charleston for free or rent equipment and get coaching at the Lee Canyon Ski Resort.

• Lee Canyon Ski Resort, which was formerly known as the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, offers several snow activities for the entire family to enjoy. Snow tubing starts at $16.99 and is offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-day ski passes are $43.99. A one-day snow experience, which includes an all-day unrestricted lift pass plus a choice of skis, boots and poles, or a snowboard, bindings and boots is $82.99. Sightseeing, museums & shows

• Glittering Lights is a 12-year tradition at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway that displays some of the most dazzling Christmas decorations and lights. Located at 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North, the holiday site is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for $20 per person. There’s also a $2 discount for those who donate clothes to Goodwill. • CSI The Experience allows visitors to get hands-on experience to see what its like to be a crime scene investigator. Located inside the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, the attraction allows visitors to work in two state-of-the-art forensic crime labs for $28 (plus a $3 service fee). Sandtiger Sharks are found in the western and eastern Atlantic Ocean, western Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean in shallow bays, sandy coastal waters and along tropical reefs. They can grow up to 10.5 feet in length and feed on large and small bony fishes, smaller sharks, rays, squid and crustaceans. Sandtiger Sharks have so many teeth they cannot fully close their mouth. • Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens transforms its 14,000 square-foot floral playground into a winter wonderland site. Showcasing a 42-foot White Fir tree, more than 30,000 flowers, 7,000 lights, polar bears and penguin figures, a snow tunnel and more, the Bellagio is the go-to site to see on the Strip during the holidays. • Winter Parq at the Linq rings in the holiday with an array of events and festivities for all ages. Located in the Linq’s Promenade, Winter Parq features an hourly live entertainment show from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and simulated snow showers every 30 minutes. Christmas alsowill be “Elf Takeover Day” where elves will go onto the High Roller and surprise guests with special giveaways. The holiday event is free, but there’s a charge to ride the High Roller. Ice skating

• At Cosmopolitan Ice Rink, the resort's Boulevard pool is transformed into a 42,000-foot ice skating rink. Located on the Las Vegas Strip, the rink features real ice and man-made snow showers. All-day skating passes are $10 for locals and $15 for visitors, plus a $5 skate rental fee. There’s also an optional $10 skating aid rental fee. The rink is open from 3 p.m. to midnight. • The Big Apple Coaster & Arcade at New York-York, the first rollercoaster to feature a “heartline” twist and dive maneuver, will be open from 10:30 a.m. to midnight. Prices are $14 per person or $60 for a family four-pack, which includes four individual ride tickets and two photos. Las Vegas locals also receive a $10 discount with a valid Nevada I.D.
