The Las Vegas Monorail pulls into the Harrah’s station Monday, Nov. 14, 2011.

For Las Vegas residents who'd like to take part in the city's New Year's celebration but don't want to contend with traffic and parking in the heart of the Strip, the Las Vegas Monorail is offering an inexpensive alternative.

Locals with a valid Nevada ID can purchase one-way tickets for $1 on the monorail, which is expanding its hours for the holiday. Service will be provided from 7 a.m. New Year's Eve through the entire day on Jan. 1 and then until 3 a.m. Jan. 2.

In addition, monorail ticket offices will stay open until 11 p.m. New Year's Eve. Tickets may be purchase at monorail stations at Bally's/Paris, the Flamingo, Harrah's/The Linq, Westgate Las Vegas, SLS Las Vegas and MGM Grand.

More than 320,000 people are expected to turn out for this year's New Year's celebration. Other options to driving can be found in this lasvegassun.com file story.
