The 73-year-old brother of Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid was arrested Monday after he was found in a parked vehicle in the dirt median of a state highway in Southern Nevada.

A Nevada Highway Patrol officer, believing a car had broken down, found Larry Reid sitting inside the Lexus SUV shortly after noon Monday.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said Larry Reid was arrested and released after spending a night at the Clark County jail. He faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and battery on an officer, for driving across a median and not wearing a seatbelt, and also for having a gun while he was under the influence of alcohol.

Reid and his car were on a stretch of U.S. 95 inside the Boulder City limits, about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas. Hixson said the car, which the trooper on the scene originally believed to be broken down, was able to be driven when the trooper arrived.

A spokeswoman for Sen. Reid confirmed Larry Reid is Harry Reid's brother, but wouldn't comment about the arrest.

A criminal complaint had not been filed as of Wednesday afternoon and no court date had been set.
