Las Vegas hits 78 degrees, breaking a record

The last time it was this warm on a Feb. 9 in Las Vegas, poodle skirts were all the rage and the valley had a population of less than 25,000.

Valley temperatures reached a high of 78 degrees today, beating the previous record of 77 degrees on Feb. 9, 1951, according to the National Weather Service.

Steady winds and a rise in high pressure will keep the valley warm till the weekend, meteorologist Chris Outler said.

Break out your summer clothes early as high temperatures are expected to remain in the low 70s, 10 degrees above the seasonal average.

Weather will cool down this weekend, with temperatures returning to highs in the 60s, Outler said.
