Officials confirm fifth measles case in Clark County

An infant with measles is the fifth confirmed case of the infectious disease in Clark County so far this year, the Southern Nevada Health District announced today.

The infant is believed to have been the source of the virus contracted by an undervaccinated restaurant worker whose case of measles was confirmed earlier this week, said Brian Labus, senior epidemiologist for the Health District.

The undervaccinated adult works at Emeril's New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand, prompting the Health District to issue a community alert. The individual also attended the Las Vegas Pet Expo at Cashman Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Health officials are urging people who visited the restaurant after 4 p.m. Feb. 4 through Saturday to review their immunization records and contact their medical providers if they are not fully vaccinated and have not already had measles. People who attended the pet expo should follow the same precautions.

Anyone who visited those places and develops a rash with fever or other measles symptoms within 21 days of exposure should contact a doctor. To minimize the spread of the virus, people with measles symptoms should call their doctors before entering a health facility.
