Letter to the Editor:

Clarification of NLV decision

The Sun published my letter headlined “Actions undermine public trust” (Feb. 8). My letter was critical of Mayor John Lee and the City Council for alleged deceptive procedures related to the granting of a waiver to build a Carl’s Jr. restaurant near the entrance to Aliante Nature Discovery Park just south of the intersection of the 215 Beltway and Aliante Parkway in North Las Vegas.

My letter mistakenly took issue with the City Council’s communication procedures at one of the meetings and the resulting waiver granted for construction of the fast-food restaurant — causing traffic, safety and parking issues; creating an eyesore and having negative effects on already-sagging North Las Vegas property values. However, it was not the mayor or council who ended up granting approval for the construction, but rather the unanimous vote of the Planning Commission, for which no petition for an appeal by the residents was ever requested.

Accordingly, to the extent my letter was misleading, I would like to apologize to the mayor and council, and anyone else who read the letter.
