UNLV guard Dantley Walker (30) shares a laugh with teammate UNLV forward Christian Wood (5) during their basketball game versus SJS at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday, January 10, 2015. L.E. Baskow.

UNLV basketball fan-favorite Dantley Walker sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee last Saturday against Air Force and is expected to miss three or four weeks, the university announced today.

That leaves the Rebels with just seven scholarship players for Wednesday’s home game against Boise State. Walk-on players Barry Cheaney and Charles Rushman could be called into significant action.

Walker, a freshman guard, was expected to see more minutes in the place of Rashad Vaughn, who is also out with a knee injury. Vaughn could be back for the Mountain West tournament in the second week of March.

Walker had two points in eight minutes on 1 of 5 shooting against Air Force, and the Rebels lost by one point. He’s played in 11 games.

“We are very disappointed for Dantley,” Rice said. “He is an important part of our team and we know he will work extremely hard to get back to playing as soon as possible.”
