Crews are expected to start site work this month for a new Ikea store in the valley, which is on track to open in summer 2016, the company said today.

The popular home furnishings store is being built on the north side of the 215 Beltway at Durango Drive, near Sunset Road.

The company said it has hired contractors for the project, including R&O Construction, which has a regional office in Las Vegas and will serve as construction manager for the site work and store development.

Other Las Vegas-based firms involved in the project include Terracon, which will provide testing and inspection services, and Kimley-Horn & Associates, which will serve as the civil engineer and traffic consultant, the company said.

“We are glad plans continue to be on track to open our Ikea Las Vegas store,” Rob Olson, Ikea U.S. CFO, said in a statement.

“This store will provide a more convenient Ikea shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout Clark County and Southern Nevada, strengthening the IKEA presence in the Southwestern U.S.,” he said.

The closest Ikea stores in the region now are in Covina, Calif., Tempe, Ariz., and Draper, Utah.

Construction of the store is expected to create about 500 jobs. The store will employ about 300 people once it opens, officials said.

The 351,000-square-foot store will include a children’s play area and a 450-seat restaurant that will serve Swedish and American cuisine.
