Topgolf breaks ground on location at MGM Grand

Topgolf International ceremonially started work Wednesday on its massive golf entertainment complex slated for a spring 2016 opening at MGM Grand.

Topgolf Las Vegas — adding to the 16 operating locations in the United States and the United Kingdom — will span 105,000 square feet and accommodate up to 2,000 people, officials said.

At Topgolf, players hit golf balls with microchips that track each shot’s accuracy and distance while awarding points for hitting targets on the 215-yard outfield in a sort of driving range experience.

The global sports entertainment company, founded in 2000 and based in Dallas, offers amenities beyond hitting bays such as food and beverage services, monthly memberships, space for events, and hundreds of HDTVs.

"This gleaming flagship location will host millions of Topgolf fans when they come to Las Vegas, bring our exciting new concept to MGM’s global clientele, and introduce the millions of other visitors to Topgolf who are attracted to Las Vegas every year in search of the latest innovations in entertainment and fun," said Topgolf Executive Chairman Erik Anderson.

Topgolf Las Vegas is expected to serve about 1 million visitors in its first year.
