Court rejects appeal in Las Vegas slaying case

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Marcus Washington, convicted in the shooting death of another man in Las Vegas in June 2011.

Washington is serving a life term without the possibility of parole.

The court upheld the decision of District Court Judge Douglas Smith, who refused to allow a woman to testify at trial for the defense because she was deemed untrustworthy, according to court documents.

The potential witness told police she heard another man admit to the shooting, according to the documents. But Smith ruled the woman was under the influence of heroin when she allegedly heard the statement, the documents said.
