Nevada’s new temporary license plates will be harder to fake

CARSON CITY — State officials say they're changing up temporary license plates that are easy to counterfeit.

Officials from the Department of Motor Vehicles say they're adding security features to the paper placards dealers place on cars when they're first sold.

The new tags will have a security seal with a unique serial number, and information about each tag and its expiration date will go into a central repository.

DMV Director Troy Dillard says police will be able to quickly verify the authenticity of the placards, and they'll be harder to counterfeit.

DMV officials say they're providing training on the tags this month to participating dealerships in Las Vegas and Reno.
