Second tree trimmer in a month dies in North Las Vegas

A tree trimmer died today after getting stuck in a palm tree, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.

Units from North Las Vegas Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue were dispatched at 1:47 p.m. to 1635 Palmer Street. From the ground, firefighters were not able to see the middle-aged man stuck in the 25- to 30-foot palm tree because the palm fronds were completely covering him.

Once crews were able to use a ladder to reach him, they cut the fronds around him and were able to get him out of the tree within 15 minutes and on his way to the hospital.

The man did not survive.

This accident, the second high-angle extrication of a local tree trimmer within the past month, is under investigation.
