Coroner IDs tree trimmer who got stuck in palm tree

A tree trimmer who died Sunday after getting stuck in a palm tree has been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office as Daniel Wynn Smith, 46, of Las Vegas.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, officials said.

Units from the North Las Vegas Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue were dispatched at 1:47 p.m. Sunday to 1635 Palmer Street in North Las Vegas.

From the ground, firefighters couldn’t see Wynn in the 25- to 30-foot palm tree because he was shrouded in palm fronds, North Las Vegas Fire Department officials said.

It took rescuers about 15 minutes to get him out of the tree, officials said. He was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

The accident is under investigation. It is the second death of a tree trimmer in North Las Vegas in less than a month.
