WASHINGTON — A Senate Democratic aide says Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is likely to return to the Senate next week after missing the first two weeks of business due to injuries sustained in a fall at his new home in Nevada.

Reid is suffering from broken facial bones and ribs after slamming into a counter when a piece of exercise equipment broke. He also sustained a concussion.

The aide said Reid won't return without the permission of his doctors.

The 75-year-old Democrat said in a radio interview this week that the injuries won't prevent him from running for a sixth term next year.

The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the aide was not authorized to speak about the information on the record.
