Police seeking leads in fatal hit-and-run

Updated Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015 | 12:06 p.m.

Metro Police are investigating the pre-dawn death of a man killed in a hit-and-run in the southwest Las Vegas Valley, officials said.

Officer Larry Hadfield said the man, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was found dead about 6 a.m. in a patch of bushes near a gas station at West Tropicana Avenue and South Jones Boulevard.

Investigators believe a vehicle was traveling west on Tropicana Avenue and hit the man in the road, police said. The impact hurled the pedestrian toward a nearby palm tree, police said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no witnesses when police arrived, and surveillance cameras didn’t capture the collision, police said.

This was the year’s first traffic-related fatality for Metro.

Police urge anyone with information to call the Metro at 702-828-3317 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
