Rainy weather on Sunday caused a higher than normal number of traffic accidents on roadways around the valley. A typical daily number for the Nevada Highway Patrol ranges from 35-40; however, on Sunday, there were 194 traffic accidents called in, and 60 of them were classified as requiring medical attention.
It was an unusual rainfall for that day in history, racking up 0.46 inches and beating the record of 0.29 inches in 1949, according to the National Weather Service. The wet weather started about 8 a.m. and cleared up around 3 p.m., said meteorologist Jim Harrison.
The map below shows all the traffic accidents added together over a 24-hour period. The larger the circle, the more accidents that occurred at that intersection. (Mobile users click here.)
Most of the circles show five accidents or less, but the intersections with the most accidents were:
The I-15 and U.S. 95: 28 accidents
The 215 Beltway and I-15: 21 accidents
The 215 and South Decatur Boulevard: 13 accidents
The 215 and Pecos Road: 11 accidents
