Las Vegas street gang leader gets 23 years in federal prison

A leader of a street gang known as the Las Vegas Playboy Bloods has been sentenced to 23 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy and drug distribution charges to avoid trial in a security guard slaying case.

Federal prosecutors say 31-year-old Markette Tillman of Las Vegas was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty last July to racketeering conspiracy and possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute.

U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden says Tillman admitted a role in the January 2004 slaying of Brian Wilcox, who was shot twice in the back while working as a security guard at the Sherman Gardens Annex public housing complex.

Bogden says Tillman was the last of 10 co-defendants indicted in the case in 2008 and later convicted to be sentenced.
