AG Laxalt tabs Cafferata for communications director

Former state Treasurer Patty Cafferata has been named communications director for Attorney General Adam Laxalt.

Cafferata, of Reno, served in the Nevada Assembly from 1981-83, was district attorney for Lincoln, Lander and Esmeralda counties and was also executive director of the Nevada Commission on Ethics.

She served as treasurer from 1983 to 1987. She was the unsuccessful Republican candidate for governor in 1986.

Cafferata has authored numerous books on Nevada history and writes a newspaper column.

She succeeds Public Information Officer Beatrix Aguirre, who resigned.

The salary is $70,894.
