CARSON CITY — Nevada Sen. Dean Heller is urging the National Football League to quickly address possible cheating after balls used in a weekend championship game were found to be underinflated.
Heller's statement came Thursday, after news that game balls used when the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday were 2 pounds per square inch under regulations. Softer footballs are generally considered easier to catch.
The Republican lawmaker noted that he represented the only state where sports betting is legal and said it's critical that the integrity of the game is never questioned.
He urged the NFL and the NFL Players Association to restore the credibility of the game before the Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.
