Storm brings showers to Southern Nevada

Updated Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 | 10:40 p.m.

Las Vegans didn't have to worry about the onset of blizzards Monday night like those in the Northeast, but they might have experienced a bit of discomfort when showers dampened parts of the valley.

A storm system from Southern California began dropping rain in parts of the valley Monday afternoon.

As of 10:30 p.m., most of the rain had fallen west of U.S. 95, with areas in Henderson and the western valley receiving up to a tenth of an inch, National Weather Service meteorologist John Adair said. Far west Summerlin saw the most rainfall, tallying about two-tenths of an inch.

Adair said showers were expected to continue until about 4 a.m. Tuesday, dropping another tenth of an inch in some areas before moving north out of the valley.

Showers began to be reported around 5 p.m. in Green Valley, the Silverado Ranch area and near the Spring Mountains.

Rain had been expected to arrive late Monday, but the storm rolled in earlier than expected, meteorologist Caleb Steele said.

Overcast skies Monday, an indicator of a storm rolling in, were expected to remain till Tuesday afternoon, with temperatures reaching the high 60s, Steele said.
