Motorcyclist injured in crash dies at hospital

A motorcyclist injured last week in a wreck has died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Metro Police said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office notified Metro on Monday of the death of Alvin Willingham, 58, of Las Vegas, officials said.

The accident was reported about 1:15 p.m. Jan. 19 at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and Escondido Street.

Willingham was riding a 1980 Yamaha motorcycle west on Flamingo, approaching the intersection with Escondido, when he hit a 1999 Oldsmobile that was turning left from eastbound Flamingo, police said.

The car was turning into a shopping center when the Yamaha hit the right rear of the car, throwing Willingham to the road, police said.

A motorcyclist behind the Yamaha stopped to help.

The 85-year-old driver of the Oldsmobile suffered minor injuries, police said.

Willingham is the seventh person killed in traffic crashes this year in Metro’s jurisdiction.
