Police: Man who failed to rob downtown bank succeeds at another nearby

Metro Police are looking for a man they say robbed a downtown bank Tuesday afternoon after an attempted robbery at another bank less than a mile away.

Police were called just before 5 p.m. to Wells Fargo at 1121 Las Vegas Blvd. South, near Charleston Boulevard, Lt. Mark Reddon said.

The suspect, described as a white man in his 60s with a thin build, gray beanie and black jacket, successfully robbed the business, Reddon said.

It is unclear what was taken in the robbery, Reddon said.

About 20 minutes earlier, police received a report of an unsuccessful robbery attempt at a Nevada State Bank branch at 230 Las Vegas Blvd. South, near Bridger Avenue, he said.

The suspect in that incident was described as a white man in his 50s or 60s standing about 6-feet-1-inch tall. He was believed to be wearing a black jacket as well as a gray and red beanie.

Police believe the same man committed both robberies, and Metro's Robbery Detail was dispatched to both locations, Reddon said.

No injuries were reported, and it is unclear if the man had a weapon in either incident.

The FBI has been notified of both events, Reddon said.
