The marriage problem

In regard to the Frank Bruni column “Your God and my dignity,” I have listened to and read rantings about marriage more times than I can identify. I think the whole problem is the word “marriage.”

I doubt that anyone in this country is concerned about two men or two women living together as a loving couple. The problem is the “M” word. It’s not a marriage and never will be.

Let me explain: We are gathered here together to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. This is the traditional opening of a marriage ceremony. It is a sacrament from God — to propagate and increase generations. This is what marriage is.

We are all free to live the lives we want. If two women or two men wish to live together and love, that is their right.

People can do whatever they want in America as long as they do not hurt other people, but I think they should be silent about it — just as the average person is about his or her choices.
