Divers are searching for a 17-year-old North Las Vegas boy who went underwater Tuesday and never surfaced while swimming at Lake Mohave, according to the National Park Service.
Rangers received a report about 5:20 p.m. that the teen was cliff jumping with friends when they decided to swim across Morning Star Cove to another cliff about 50 yards away, officials said.
The teen’s friends tried to rescue him when he started struggling, but they couldn’t hold on and he went under the water, officials said.
Rangers responded to the scene and searched the area until nightfall.
A Metro Police dive team today resumed the search, which has become a recovery effort, officials said.
Another teen also presumably drowned while trying to swim across the same cove June 4, officials said.
