Woman, 20, thrown from SUV, dies in rollover crash

A 20-year-old woman died today after the SUV she was driving hit a wall and overturned on West Smoke Ranch Road near Decatur Boulevard, according to Metro Police.

The Las Vegas resident was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer west on West Smoke Ranch about 7:15 a.m. when she lost control and ran off the road, hitting a block wall, police said.

The SUV rolled onto its side, and the driver was thrown from the vehicle, police said.

She were taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

A 21-year-old female passenger suffered moderate injuries, police said.

Smoke Ranch was closed in both directions between Decatur and Jones boulevards until about noon, police said.

This is the 51st traffic death investigated by Metro this year, police said.

The driver’s name will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office, pending notification of her family.
