Flood advisory issued as storms hit the valley

Weekend temperatures cool down enough to stop record heat streak

Updated Sunday, July 5, 2015 | 3:06 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the northwest part of town as a storm makes it way through the valley.

Rainfall has only be measured at .40 inches but could easily reach 0.75 inches, meteorologist Todd Lericos said. The advisory is effective until 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Most of the valley will experience light showers tonight and thunderstorms that will last through Monday.

The cloud cover, wind and rain will barely put a damper on the hot weather.

Temperatures are expected to reach 102 degrees today and cool down a few degrees during the week, Lericos said.

But that's cooler than the past three weeks.

The 102-degree high over the holiday weekend prevented Las Vegas from breaking a record heat streak.

The valley tied a record of 21 consecutive days of the high temperature reaching 105 or more. The streak ended Friday, when the high temperature only hit 102 degrees, Lericos said.

The 21 days included the hottest June in Las Vegas on the record books.

The 21-day record was set in 1957 and was tied again in 1959, 1973 and 2000.
