letters to the editor:

Socialism will not solve our problems

You recently ran a political cartoon of a man looking over the beautiful city of Paris toward the graceful Eiffel Tower. The cartoon said, in essence, how wonderful it would be if we could become a glorious socialist country like France, just like Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders would like us to become.

Then a bit of the ugly reality was displayed with a photo of French police in riot gear (“UberPop must close down, French interior minister says,” Las Vegas Sun, June 27). It seems there may be a few troubles in paradise, including taxi drivers attacking their technology-driven competition and, in some cases, injuring customers who were in the way. The article also mentioned that the unemployment rate was in double digits, which is bad but much better than that other socialist paradise, Greece.

After seeing the results of socialism in the 20th century, it’s hard to believe there are still people in the 21st century who think it’s the solution to our problems.
