Nevada teen arrested in infant son’s 2013 killing

SPARKS — Police have arrested a Sparks teenager as a murder suspect in the death of his 7-month-old son a year and a half ago.

Sparks Police Lt. Rocky Triplett says the 17-year-old was carrying a concealed handgun when he was taken into custody Tuesday on a first-degree murder warrant.

The youth was 15 years old when his son died from head trauma three days after police responded to a report of an infant in respiratory distress at a Sparks home in December 2013.

Doctors at a Reno hospital determined the child suffered a face injury and hemorrhaging in his brain. Detectives have been investigating ever since.

The suspect was being held without bail Wednesday in the Washoe County jail. His initial court appearance is pending and it's not clear if he has a lawyer.
