Storm drops rain and hail in parts of the Las Vegas Valley

Updated Thursday, July 9, 2015 | 10 p.m.

Storms developed in and near the Las Vegas Valley on Thursday bringing rain and hail as meteorologists predicted hotter temperatures for the upcoming week.

Pea-sized hail and up to 0.30 inches of rain were reported in the western valley due to a thunderstorm, National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Lericos said.

The storm especially affected the Spring Valley and Summerlin areas before crossing U.S. 95 north of the Spaghetti Bowl and heading toward Aliante, the weather service said.

The system moved out of the valley by about 7 p.m., Lericos said.

About 0.10 inches of rain were recorded as an earlier storm caused rainfall over U.S. 95 between Kyle Canyon Road and Lee Canyon Road, meteorologist Justin Pullin said.

Temperatures are expected to heat up with a forecasted high of 93 degrees Friday that should increase to 100 by Sunday, Lericos said.

Winds are expected to reach about 10 to 15 mph Friday, he said.

Temperatures should stay above 100 degrees next week with forecasted highs of 102 degrees Monday and 103 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, Pullin said.

A system to the west is expected to bring dry air into the valley, he said.
