Harry Reid’s brother pleads no contest to 2 misdemeanors in DUI case

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid's brother pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor driving under the influence and resisting arrest to close a case stemming from an arrest five months ago.

Larry Joe Reid, 73, didn't appear in Boulder City Justice Court, where attorney David Brown submitted written pleas, paid almost $1,200 in fines, and provided proof that Reid attended court-required DUI and victim-impact classes, Brown and a court clerk said.

Boulder City Justice of the Peace Victor Miller dismissed misdemeanor battery on an officer, weapon, failure to comply and seatbelt charges.

Brown said his client is happy the case was resolved.

Reid was arrested at gunpoint about midday Feb. 2, after a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper reported finding him sitting in a black SUV on a U.S. Highway 95 median near Searchlight.

An arrest report alleged that Reid tried to drive away with the trooper clinging to the side of the vehicle and then punched the trooper after the officer managed to reach across the steering wheel, shift the vehicle into park and remove the keys.

The trooper reported that Reid continued to fight until a National Park Service ranger arrived as backup and Reid was handcuffed.

A gun was later found beneath the center console of the SUV, which led to the weapon charge because Reid had been drinking.
