Henderson man identified after fatal fall at Zion National Park

ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah — The man who died following a fall while canyoneering at Zion National Park has been identified.

Authorities say 24-year-old Brian Artmann of Henderson fell about 100 feet in Heaps Canyon around 7 p.m. Saturday.

He did not have a rope when the accident occurred in the strenuous canyon, which has a 3,000-foot descent and takes 12 to 20 hours to complete.

Artmann's body was recovered Sunday morning, as the area was so remote that it took two of his companions more than four hours to reach park officials.

A third person stayed at the scene with Artmann but he died before rescuers could reach him.
