Metro Police say a man was injured when another man fired a firework at him in the desert behind a 7-Eleven convenience store near Nellis Air Force Base.

Sgt. John Sheahan said police arrested one of the two homeless men. The other man was transported to University Medical Center with injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Police were called to an empty lot near North Nellis Boulevard and East Gowan Road about 1:40 p.m., Officer Laura Meltzer said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue's bomb squad was called to the scene to assist Metro about 2:10 p.m., fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
