Plane crashes near Henderson airport, sending four to the hospital

Four people are in the hospital — two with critical burns — after a small plane crashed in Henderson.

According to Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards, the four-seater, single-engine Piper PA-28 Cherokee went down in a desert area 3 miles southeast of the Anthem Inspirada neighborhood around 1:30 p.m. after departing from the Henderson Executive Airport, Richards said.

A fire ignited after the crash, and the plane is a total loss, Clark County Department of Aviation spokesman Paul Bobson said.

Two of the passengers had critical burns and two sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, Richards said. All four passengers were taken to University Medical Center.

Bobson said the aircraft was traveling to Southern California and was not based at the airport. According to the Federal Aviation Administration's online database, the plane is registered to Jody Stuckey of Virginia Beach, Va.

It was not clear what caused the crash, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.
