Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman is endorsing Republican Rep. Joe Heck in his bid for Senate.

Goodman said Monday that Heck has served Las Vegas residents as part of a police search and rescue team and as a doctor at University Medical Center, as well as in Congress.

Heck is running against Democratic former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto for the seat being vacated by longtime Democratic Sen. Harry Reid. The race is expected to be close.

Goodman is a registered nonpartisan but has previously registered as a Democrat. She endorsed Democratic state Sen. Ruben Kihuen for Congress last week, and her husband previously endorsed Democratic former Rep. Shelley Berkley in her 2012 Senate bid against Republican Dean Heller.
