Hutchison orders flags to half-staff after Tenn. shooting

CARSON CITY — Nevada Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison has ordered flags at public buildings be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of last week's shooting in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The executive order takes effect Wednesday and runs through sunset on Saturday. It applies to Nevada and U.S. flags at all state public buildings, and comes after President Barack Obama issued a similar proclamation for federal buildings.

Hutchison issued a statement saying the thoughts and prayers of Nevadans are with the victims' families and the military in the wake of the shooting, which took place at two military facilities and left five service members and the gunman dead.

Hutchison issued the order in his capacity as acting governor. He's assuming the duty while Gov. Brian Sandoval is on a trade mission in Europe.
