CARSON CITY — State officials have filled a high-ranking new education department position authorized by the Nevada Legislature.

State Superintendent Dale Erquiaga announced Monday that Dena Durish is being promoted to the new position of Deputy Superintendent for Educator Effectiveness and Family Engagement. Durish had been serving for 18 months as the department's Director of Educator Effectiveness.

She'll now oversee three units including Office of Educator Licensure, Office of Educator Development and Support and Office of Parent Involvement and Family Engagement. Her old position is now vacant.

The Legislature approved the new deputy superintendent position and funding for an annual salary of about $107,000.
