Strong winds make their way into Southern Nevada

Powerful winds are being pushed into the Las Vegas Valley by thunderstorms from the south after a flash flood watch was canceled this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds as strong as 40 mph could bring isolated thunderstorms tonight through Sunday with the possibility of a few light showers in some parts of the valley, meteorologist Stan Czyzyk said.

This will keep our weekend a bit cooler with highs in the low 100s before the temperature picks up to a high of 106 degrees on Monday, he said.

The flash flood watch, which was supposed to last through 10 p.m. today, was canceled as of about 2:40 p.m., meteorologist Chad Shafer said.

Rainfall on Mount Charleston over the past 24 hours has measured up to 0.88 inches, and between 0.1 and 0.3 inches have been reported near Kyle Canyon.

Areas of Summerlin have seen up to 0.1 inches of rain the past 24 hours, while about 0.04 inches has fallen near the Aliante casino in North Las Vegas.

Rain, meanwhile, has been sparse in the central and southern valley.

Relative humidity at McCarran International Airport was about 49 percent this morning, which is high but common during monsoon season, Shafer said.

The normal high for this week is about 105 degrees with a normal low near 82 degrees.
