1 injured, $30,000 damage in northeast valley garage fire

One person was injured in a garage fire at a northeast valley house this afternoon, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Fire crews were called about 2:30 p.m. to the single-story home in the 3600 block of Alto Drive, near Pecos Road and Las Vegas Boulevard North, the department said.

Firefighters on scene saw smoke coming from the garage and were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes, the department said.

One individual was taken to University Medical Center, but the person's condition was not disclosed.

No firefighters were injured.

The fire caused about $30,000 damage, the department said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the North Las Vegas Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Investigators determined the accidental fire was caused by "careless handling of ashes," according to the Clark County Fire Department.

A man at the house burned items and left the ashes, which he believed were cold, in the garage, according to the department.
