Armed man shot, killed by Douglas County deputies

GARDNERVILLE — Douglas County sheriff's deputies have shot and killed a man after he reportedly pointed weapons at them outside of his Gardnerville home.

Deputies had responded Thursday to the home of 48-year-old Mark Perkins after reports that he had threatened to kill a neighbor and shoot his wife and police. He had been armed with multiple weapons.

Deputies along with SWAT and Crisis Negotiations Teams arrived at the home at about 5:30 p.m. Members of the SWAT team began evacuating surrounding homes when Perkins came out and confronted deputies.

Authorities say Perkins pointed two weapons at deputies, who then opened fire on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The six deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will investigate the shooting.
